A large squad of boys from the Mars Training Ship provided a most delightful entertainment, extending over two and a half hours, in the Kinnaird Hall on Saturday night for the benefit of the fund for the unemployed. The hall was crowded and the boys displayed marked skill in all they undertook. Selections were well played by the band, physical drill and gymnastic work were creditably performed, while as soloists and as a choir the boys showed the results of careful musical training. Dens Road School to be erected by Dundee School Board in place of St Salvador's Episcopal School, which is to be closed, is to cost about £14,500. The works committee on Tuesday agreed to recommend the acceptance of offers from Tradesmen amounting in the aggregate to £12,500 and the cost of furnishing with architects fees etc, will amount to £2000. It should be stated that the first estimate was £19,000, but there has been a good deal of cutting down, with the result indicated. Read more......

For the past few weeks a large part of Dundee - the whole female part at least - has been trying to guess what it would be like, and conjuring up scenes of decorative grandeur, suggested perhaps by the magnificent Arabian Nights. An important addition has just been made to the industrial trade carried on in the Institution for the Blind in the form of a new mat and matting installation. Three new loons have been added, with the most modern machinery for trimming and finishing. The latter are propelled by an electric motor. Read more......
Opening of Blackness and Coldside Libraries
An important addition to the library facilities enjoyed by the inhabitants of Dundee was made yesterday, when two branch libraries, which have been erected through the generosity of Dr Andrew Carnegie, were formally opened for public service. Read more......
Dundee Horticultural Society's show, which closed on Saturday, was in every respect a great success. On Saturday afternoon and particularly in the evening, the tents were crowded by thousands of visitors. A squad of Seaforth Highlanders gave another display of military exercise. Read more......
A smart apprehension was effected in Dundee on Wednesday. By telephonic message the police were informed of a theft committed at Montrose, the goods consisting of cuts of worsted, socks and other articles of weaving apparel. Intelligence of the occurrence was received at 7.35pm, the hour when the East Coast train is due at Dundee and by which it was suspected the stolen goods had been conveyed. Detective Super Intendant Lakie proceeded to the spot and was fortunate enough to find the train somewhat late. From it was dislodged a large crowd, amongst which to search for the man wanted, with the somewhat meagre description available was like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. Today the Forth and Clyde Royal Garrison Artillery will occupy the familiar camping ground of the Submarine Miners under the shadow of the Old Castle of Broughty Ferry. By and by the "Subbies" themselves, transformed into a Territorial Fortress Company will encamp there too, so that the disbandment of the "Subbies" instead of ending the military usefulness of the Castle Green appears likely to greatly increase that usefulness. London on Monday paid tribute to the memory of the late ex-Premier, Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman when the body of the dead statesman rested before the alter in Westminster Abbey while an impressive funeral service was conducted.
