The Dundee Thomson liner Bellona (Captain Grund) arrived in the Tay on Tuesday morning from Quebec with a cargo of timber. While making for Camperdown lockway and at a point directly opposite Camperdown Shipyard she took the ground. Efforts were made to float her, the services of tugs Renown and Gilroy being requisitioned. Their endeavours however were unsuccessful and the vessel remained hard and fast. The proposal to improve the enclosed ground at Tay Square and to make of it a beauty spot and resting place, engaged the attention of Dundee Parks Committee at a meeting on Wednesday. Representatives from proprietors on the subject were considered. The Committee decided to recommend that it the ground could be left open to the public in terms to be arranged the Corporation would undertake the duty of beautification and maintenance. Two steam drifters were launched on Saturday afternoon from the yard of the Caledon Ship-building and Engineering Company Ltd. Shortly after 10 pm last night fire broke out in Hillbank Linen Works, Messrs James Scott & Sons Ltd. The outbreak occurred in the west wing and was caused by overheating in the engine room. The reeling and spinning flats were affected but the iron doors prevented the spread of the flames. Considerable damage was done by water. Read more......

On starting work about eight yesterday morning the employees in the hand-painting department of Messrs Valentine and Sons Ltd., photographic works in the Perth Road discovered that fire had broken out. The fire brigade station was at once communicated with but before the firemen arrived the flames were practically extinguished. The great visit of Celtic to Dens Park has come and gone, and left is a mixed condition of affairs. Both clubs are at once rejoicing and lamenting - rejoice over the financial outcome and lamenting the loss of two good men.
