Singing In The Rain
Torrential rain failed to dampen the spirits of Dundee United supporters who turned up at the City Square in their thousands last night to celebrate the winning of the Premier League championship. Monsoon rain and even thunder and lightening were ignored as the Tannadice faithful thronged the city centre to greet their heroes, who had travelled in an open top bus from the ground to the council chambers. Sit-in Not Ruled Out at Timex
The unions have not ruled out occupation of the Milton of Craigie Timex Complex in Dundee as a possible escalation of opposition to compulsory redundancies. Ancrum/Blackness Community Council last night showed considerable interest in the probability of an Islamic Centre being set up in the area, perhaps the old Blackness Primary School. £305,753 for Sports Project
Dundee District Leisure and Recreation Committee decided to spend £305,753 on the Kirkton Park Sports Hall project some 20% more than the £250,000 allowed in the estimates. The lowest tender amounted to £292,866 and the balance of the last is made up of fees and electricity services. Read more......

Honour for Dundee Citizens
Two of Dundee's noted citizens are to have buildings named after them. The new Lincraig branch library due to open to the public in February is to be named after Mid Craigie poet and songwriter Mary Brooksbank, who died in 1978 at the age of 80. The £250,000 sports hall extension to Kirkton Park Pavilion will be named after Dick McTaggart who won a boxing gold medal at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne. Read more......

Timex Message to Workers
In a major attempt to end the strike affecting Timex factories in Dundee, the company has sent letters to its 3500 hourly paid employees, warning them of the gravity of the position. The letter signed by Mr Barry Lawson, UK Director of Manufacturing, talks of "the very serious consequences of this extremely damaging stoppage" Read more......

Dundee Medal Winning Brothers Back Home
Dundee's Commonwealth Games medal winning brothers, Dougie and Iain Campbell returned home today in fine fettle. Elder brother Dougie, who celebrated his 22nd birthday in Australia captured a bronze in the 4 x 200 metres freestyle relay and another along with 17 year old Iain in the controversial 4 x 100 metres medley relay. Day Without Ambulances
Dundee and District will be without ambulances for 24 hours, starting tomorrow at 7a.m. The one day stoppage decision, taken last night in support of health service workers, reflects a harder stance being adopted by the 50 ambulancemen at Dundee and Monifieth depots. The crews had for the past eight to ten weeks restricted their support for industrial action to two-hour strikes. Read more......
