Dundee District Council's development committee last night gave Tayside Regional Council planning permission to start work on the long awaited Invergowrie by-pass.The committee granted permission for the construction of 1.06 kilometres of highway land to the north of Greystane Road. Objections have been received from A. M. Moore who had recently constructed a house in Greystane Road and is to move there shortly.
The committee endorsed the Chief Planning Officer's recommendation that the application be approved subject to a detailed landscaping plan being submitted to the district council before the start of work.

There is an interesting charity match at Glenesk Park on Sunday with Dundee - Dundee United select meeting a Violet Harp select. Proceeds are going to the Wellburn Charity fund.
The man behind the event is district Councillor Charles Farquhar, who is always ready to assist with any charity scheme. Managers Jim McLean and Donald MacKay have promised to field a strong select with the emphasis on local players. The game starts at 3pm.
Friday October 22nd sees the Four Tops on stage at the Playhouse in Dundee. Tickets will be on sale early next week from the Playhouse and from various record shop outlets all over Tayside.
Tickets for Showaddywaddy in the Caird Hall in October are also on sale in towns throughout Tayside.
Flames shot into the sky and a column of smoke rose more than on hundred feet into the night sky as fire destroyed part of the Isolation Unit of Dundee's Kingcross West Hospital, MacAlpine Road last night.
The 400 square-metre timber ward was well alight when three fire units arrived at the scene. Half the building was raised to the ground as flames ripped through the structure. Firemen wearing breathing apparatus were about to enter the building when a smell of gas was noticed. Investigations by a Fire Officer showed all the gas taps were turned off.
Traffic on MacAlpine Road had to be diverted for a time and a crowd of onlookers gathered to watch. The cause of the blaze is being investigated.
An exhibition to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Patrick Geddes will be held in the Bonar Hall, Dundee University from tomorrow until Saturday October 16th. Patrick Geddes was one of the great pioneers of environmental planning and urban renewal.
Four horses stabled between Invergowire and Longforgan will no doubt give only passing attention to a visitor tonight - blissfully unaware that it is probably the most famous living horse.
The visitor is none other than Red Rum winner of three Grand Nationals and very much a celebrity. Red Rum is due to parade around Dundee tomorrow sponsored by a local bookmaking firm.
Tonight however he is to be stabled courtesy of Mr and Mrs A.N. McCormick of Invergowrie. Mr McCormick is a local vet and Mrs Marjory McCormick will be responsible for Red Rum's wellbeing.
There is a limited edition of 1000 prints in a collection of water colour paintings of the Falklands War, which are being put on sale in aid of the South Atlantic Fund. The prints will go on sale tomorrow. There will be 250 available at Burns and Harris shops in Dundee. There is no set price although buyers would be expected to make a minimum donation of £1.
