New Dundee Pleasure Steamer

Building of the Caird HallThe new Dundee pleasure steamer 'Advance' arrived in the Tidal Harbour from Montrose on Tuesday. The 'Advance' which presents a very smart appearance, has been built by Montrose Shipbuilding Company for Mr James Tares, the owner of the 'Bonnie Dundee' and it is to take the place of this steamer in the pleasure sailing on the Tay. The 'Advance' was towed to Dundee by Montrose tug 'Rapid', and is berthed in the King William Dock. Read more......

Perseverance Lodge

CowgateThe weekly meeting of the Perseverance Lodge was held on Thursday when Brother Gray, presided over a full meeting, and initiated three new candidates. Brother Hogg, then in a suitable manner, presented Sister Menzies and Brother Mason, members of the lodge with a lovely tea set as a token of goodwill and esteem from the lodge on the occasion of their approaching marriage. Read more......

A Day Trespasser

Dundee from the LawBefore Hon Sheriff-Substitute Ogilvie in Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday, Matthew Snee, a painter of Wilson Street, Lochee pleaded guilty to a charge of day trespass. Mr H.A. Pattullo, solicitor, who prosecuted stated that along with two others, who had already been punished, accused had been found netting rabbits in the policies of Camperdown. His Lordship imposed a fine of 7s 6d with 21s of expenses the alternative being seven days imprisonment. Read more......

FairThe "St James Gazette" states that the King will be one of the first to welcome Captain Scott all his gallant colleagues of the Antarctic Expedition back from the icy seas.

If his arrangements permit, His Majesty, it is said, may go to Southampton and offer his congratulations on Discovery's return. In any case the King will take an early opportunity of extending a personal welcome to Captain Scott. Read more......
