Cricket Match

East StationNo fewer than 20 special trains will leave the East Station today for Broughty Ferry in connection with the Forfarshire-Perthshire cricket match at Forthill, about the same number will run from Broughty in the evening.

Competition for the Best Kept Garden

Under the auspices of the Clepington Working Man's Garden Association the annual inspection for the best kept and cropped gardens took place on Tuesday. The awards of the judges are as follows:-

Prevention of Cruelty

The secretary of the Dundee Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals reports that during the month of June - 28 cases were dealt with:- working horses while lame 11; working horses with sores under the harness 12; beating horses 2; neglecting horses 1; travel horses 2.

Rhubarb and Batter

Three ounce butter, three ounce sugar, one egg, quarter-pound flour, one teaspoon baking powder, one cup of milk. Cut one and a half pounds rhubarb and sprinkle with sugar to make it sweet. Beat butter and sugar to a cream, add in flour and baking powder, mix with egg and milk. Pour batter over rhubarb and steam for two hours.

Gardener's Letters

Mr R.T.C. Scott, Johnshaven writes:-
I am taking the liberty of enclosing herewith a "cabbage leaf" which I found growing among some other cabbages a few days ago. As you will see, it is completely round, and, therefore I think it might be taken some notice of. I have shown it to several people, including some other gardeners, and none of them seems to have ever observed a similar one. I shall be glad if you think this worthy of notice in your paper, which is so largely read by people of a horticultural and agricultural pursuits.
