Colour Difficulty

OvergateIn the Overgate, not very far from the Old Steeple, an enterprising householder has demonstrated what might be done by brightening the frontages of old properties. One window has been painted a brilliant blue. The risk is that if each householder is to select his or her colour of paint the Overgate may become tartanised. Strap-hanging on the Buses - Official Decision

Courier BuildingNo more strap-hanging will be allowed on the Dundee Corporation buses from Monday onwards. Mr D.P. Morrison, the transport manager, informed me yesterday afternoon that he was to issue an order declaring that standing in buses will not be allowed as from Monday. Read more......

Fire Brigade Calls

D.M.BrownsThe fire brigade answered two calls on Monday night, the second of which was found to be a false alarm. Shortly before 10 o'clock an outbreak occurred on the premises of John Dowell, dairyman, Strathmartine Road, a quantity of hay in an adjoining shed becoming ignited. The brigade, under Captain Weir, extinguished the outbreak by means of hand extinctuers. Read more......

Another Cinema for Dundee - Accommodation for 1,150

Forest Park CinemaA further addition to the number of cinemas in Dundee, Forest Park Cinema, was opened on Monday afternoon. Due to the enterprise of a city builder, Mr Charles Gray, this very well appointed building has been erected in a comparatively short time, it being only a few months since the plans were passed. Fell into Dock

DownfieldFrederick Mitchell (13), 46 Hillbank Road, while walking along the side of Camperdown Dock on Sunday, slipped and fell into the water. He was able to pull himself on to a raft of logs by means of a rope and climb the latter on to the quayside. After being given a hot bath at Camperdown Dockgate house he went home little the worse of his immersion. Read more......

Albert SquareA striking instance of a dog's devotion to its master occurred during the weekend, when a five year old Airedale bitch, belonging to an Edinburgh man, made her way from Dundee to her owner's home in Edinburgh. City Water Main Bursts

Union StreetThe bursting of a water main at the top of Union Street, Dundee on Tuesday caused great excitement.

About 4 pm a rumbling nise was heard. Immediately a manhole was sent hurtling from the ground, with a shower of stones and a piece of heavy pipe, weighing up to half a cwt, been thrown up. Fortunately nobody was passing at the time but a taxicab driver at a stance in front of the Old Steeple had a narrow escape from the pipe. Read more......
