Dundee District Council rate is to be 40p in the pound - an increase of 5p over last year. It was passed by 23 votes to 18 by the finance committee and then ratified by the same margin at the district council immediately afterwards.A 40p rate gives an increase of 14%, Dundee ratepayers face an overall rate of 15.25% following the announcement earlier of Tayside Regional Council rates - 96p in the £1, which includes 9p domestic water rate.
Mr Ken Fagan, the Districts Honorary Treasurer and Leader of the Administration, moved approval of the new rate along with the expenditure estimates for 1982/83 of £21,797,487.

Dundee Evangelistic Union had a good house when they showed the film "Jodi". It's a touching story of a girl who is paralysed and a collection at the show raised £170. A cheque for that amount has gone to the Brittle Bone Society.

The former Odeon cinema in the Cowgate Dundee could re-open shortly, as a bingo hall and social club. An out of the blue application has been made to the Dundee District Licensing Board to convert the cinema - which has been closed for several months. The application from a firm called County Properties and Development Ltd., would result in the building becoming County Bingo and Social Club.
Cammy Fraser is making a habit of scoring late goals for Dundee against Airdrie, he netted eight minutes form the end at Broomfield on Saturday and six minutes from the end of the game between the clubs at Den's Park in December.
