Another committee has been engaged in looking out for a site for a new school in the east end but so far their efforts have been fruitless. In the west end too the pinch is being felt, though less keenly. From the departmental restrictions regarding size of classes and other reasons the Hawkhill School, while nominally showing a considerable number of vacant places is practically full and at neighbouring Blackness half the class rooms were found slightly overcrowded at each of the three visits paid to it in the course of the session. It is almost unnecessary to point out that under such conditions a school can be neither organised nor taught to the best advantage.

A very interesting piece of Dundee history was given on Sunday by Rev. George Christie who raked up from the fusty annals of the city a precedent of blacklisting as far back as the 16th century. Then the Magistrates also decided on 9 o'clock closing but with what results we are not told. Truly there is nothing new in the world.
Some commotion was caused in the west end of Dundee one evening last week by the violence of a lunatic. Armed with a knife, the madman made a desperate attack on a male relative and a struggle ensued, the relative making his escape through a window. The lunatic then devoted his attention to several women who barricaded themselves into another apartment. The original object of his fury however soon returned accompanied by the police and the madman, after a sharp struggle was overcome and removed to the asylum.

The stains of tea are very stubborn and not at all ready to give way to simple applications. A weak solution of chloride of lime is an effectual remedy but it often removes the colour of the material as well as the stain. Stir half a teaspoon of chloride of lime into a pint of hot water, when cold and the sediment has settled at the bottom, pour off the clear liquid and dip the stain into it once or twice, not letting it lie. Rinse in clear water.
