The plans of the new store for Marks & Spencer, Ltd., in Murraygate, Dundee were passed by the Dean of Guild Court yesterday, and will come before the Corporation Works Committee on October 8.
The architects are James M. Munro & Sons, 307 West George Street, Glasgow. Mr Munro stated:-
"The building to be erected in Murraygate and Horse Wynd and consists of a store in two flours, partly basement and ground floor with stock-room and offices on the first floor and staff accommodation on the second floor."
"The latter consists of rest-rooms, dinner rooms, cloakrooms and other offices. The building is to be constructed in brick, steel framed, with a stone frontage to Murraygate and return elevation to Horse Wynd."
Mr Munro added that the building was expected to be completed in six or seven months.
Parkhead Arena Promotions, Glasgow, have been granted permission by the Scottish Boxing Board of Control to stage a show in the Caird Hall, Dundee on October 29.
They intend to fix a return bout between Gilbert Johnston, Dundee and K.O. Morgan, who defeated him narrowly at Aberdeen. Johnston, however, has so far received no communication regarding the fight. Morgan, it is reported, stipulates that the Dundee boy must be 9st. To ask him to come down to this weight, however seems unfair, for it will inevitably weaken him.
A blaze in a fish restaurant at 21 Hilltown, Dundee, early on Thursday morning caused much excitement. The tenants of the tenement in which the shop is situated had to be warned out as a precautionary measure.
The fish restaurant, which is known as the Carlton Restaurant, is occupied by Olivo Olivieri. The outbreak was discovered shortly after 2 a.m., and Dundee Fire Brigade was informed by telephone. Detachments were ordered out from both the Central and Northern Fire Stations. A line of hose was run out, but the shop was well ablaze. The occupants of the tenement were ordered to leave their homes, and a large crowd quickly gathered.
Within a short time the firemen had the flames under control, but not before the interior of the shop had been destroyed.

A recommendation to adhere to the original site to the north of Langton Road for the new school for Mid Craigie was agreed by and Education Works Sub-committee.
