Red Cross Week
To mark the beginning of Red Cross Week, the Dundee branch of the British Red Cross Society will take part in the morning service at 11am tomorrow in Dundee Parish Church, (St Mary's).
Lord Provost J.P Gowans, JP, Patron of the Dundee Branch, Miss I.B.S Clark, Branch President, Miss G.D Thomson, MBE, Branch Director - accompanied by officers and member including youth and juniors will attend.The colours will be carried by youth leaders, Mr Eric Milner and Mr Robert Smith escorted by Mrs Ann Ford, assistant Directoer, Youth and Junior.

Dundee Safe Raid Bid Starts Fire
Raiders in a Dundee garage early today had to flee after an attempt to burn open a safe with a welder's torch failed and the office caught fire.
Firemen were called to Edward & Stewart, Ltd.'s premises at 3, Roseangle just after 12.30am. They prevented the blaze spreading to the rest of the garage, which houses thousands of pounds worth of cars.
But the damage to the office was extensive. Three fire appliances attended and the firemen used one jet and breathing apparatus.
It was discovered the office had been broken into via an external window. A senior CID Officer said the incident was being investigated.
Not Much In The Safe - Later as garage staff cleared up the debris, one of the Directors said she was still trying to work out the cost of the damage.
The safe is still intact, but even if it had been opened, they wouldn't have got much" added Miss Margaret Stewart.
"The fact that business papers were destroyed will mean a great deal of inconvenience for us". But Miss Stewart stressed the garage would be open for business as usual today. She was called out by police at 1am.
The office suffered severe damage to wall and the ceiling. The safe was badly charred.
Canoe Slalom
Dundee White Water Club's annual slalom was won by Shane Kelly, Ireland, in two minutes 31.3 seconds. This must make him favourite for this years world championships in Wales in July.

Designers To Meet In Dundee
Internationally famous designers are to be among the speakers at the Scottish Architects' convention to be held in Dundee on May 8th - 9th.
The include one of the designers of the mini-metro, G.G Sked; Architects Piers Gough, Kenneth Grange and Geoffrey Drake.
Scottish speakers include Dundee-trained David Walker, Principle Inspector for the Historic Buildings Commission for Scotland and Dr Peter Savage author of the recently published book "Lorimer and the Craft Designers".

The Last Highland Show to be held in Dundee was in 1957. The attendance of 131,561 was 32,356 fewer than the record Highland Show record of 163,917 at Dundee in 1949. The 1957 show was run at a loss of £6900 and this determined the directors to look for a permanent site. Ingiliston was eventually decided upon.
