Final of the Forfarshire Cup
Dundee United reached the final of the Forfarshire Cup the hard way. It took them 290 minutes to shake off lowly Montrose in the semi-final and they were lucky to do so.They play Arbroath at Tannadice in the final tonight the kick off is at 6.45 pm. The team is:- Edmiston; English; Hamilton; McCann; Arnold; Shearer, Callagahn; Stenhouse; McKay; Grant and McIvor.

Private Bowling Clubs
Some private bowling clubs opened their greens last week, but today the season opens in earnest. Club secretaries say there's no decrease of interest in the sport. Although it still attracts a larger percentage of "old timers" there are plenty of under forties throwing the bools. Many clubs have invited the ladies to be present at these first matches of the season.

Book Issues
Last month 130,708 books were issued by Dundee Public Libraries - an increase of 6,540. There was also an increase of 1,343 in readers cards, 219 in non-fiction cards and 62 in Braille literature.
Dundee Cake
This is a grand-keeping cake for unexpected visitors - Mrs A Kerr.
You require 8 eggs, 5oz butter or margarine, 5oz sugar, 1oz almonds, 6oz flour, one level tblsp baking powder, 3oz mixed peel, 3oz cherries, 6oz raisins, 6oz currants and grated lemon rind.
Mix fruit with flour, ground almonds and baking powder. Cream butter and sugar til light and creamy, add eggs one by one and beat til smooth. Add the flour and fruit mixture gradually. Prepare loaf tin and put in mixture and bake in moderate oven for 2 to 2½ hours.
A Way with Rhubarb
Many people cannot take rhubarb jam because of the acidity but if the rhubarb is left to lie for a few days - I tie the stalks in a bundle and hang them outside - most of the acidity is removed. Mrs Main, Bridge Street.

Stole from his Sisters
A 15 year old boy stole £56 from the houses of his two sisters and shared most of the money with his pals, it was said at Dundee Sheriff Juvenile Court on Monday.
One of his sisters told the Sheriff:- "We are willing to give him another chance" and the boy was put on two years probation.
The fiscal said the boy had got a key to a locked bureau which contained insurance collections in one of his sisters homes. From the beginning of January to the middle of this month he stole £50 in sums of £2 to £15 and share it with other boys. He also stole four times from his sister with whom he lived with.
