Happy Hogmanay Revellers...
The absence of of Dundee's Pillars and particularly of the Town House clock did not detract from the spirit of Hogmanay in the city. The High Street was crowded as usual by a merry throng numbering about 5000. Bright paper hats and carnival decorations were much in evidence. The custom of first footing was as popular as ever and everywhere there were merry bands of revellers carrying New Year gifts. Many Hogmanay dances were held. There was very little disorderliness in the city.
Kings Greeting to Dundee Citizens
Lord Provost Buist, Dundee received late on Saturday night a reply from the King to the New Years greeting sent to His Majesty, the reply is as follows:-
"Lord Provost, Dundee, The Queen and I cordially thank the corporation and the citizens of Dundee for their kind message and good wishes for the New Year and I earnestly trust that 1933 will bring an improvement in industrial activity and greater happiness and prosperity to the people of Dundee."

Ploughing Match at Lochee
Should the weather prove favourable today, Lochee folk will have an excellent opportunity of witnessing an unusual event on their doorstep. The Muirhead and Liff ploughing contest takes place at Dryburgh Farm, in a field on the new Kingsway Road and 18 ploughs are entered.
Holiday Rush...
The railway stations were busy on Monday. At West Station traffic to Perth and Glasgow was heavy. Three hundred members of the Four Square Gospel Alliance left by special train to spend the day in Glasgow. A big crowd of football fans left Tay Bridge Station in the morning for the Aberdeen - Dundee match. The Dundee team travelled by the same train. The booking office at East Station was also busy " Return to Arbroath" being a frequent request.

During January - Art Exhibition of watercolours by British artists of today. Assembled by the Museums Association, London. Entrance by the Museum door usual hours.

"Burns Nicht" at Lochee Guild...
Lochee West Church Women's Guild "Burns Night" was held in the church hall on Wednesday night. Rev H. Angus Williamson presided over a gathering of over 200. Rev. McIntosh Mowat gave an address on the life and works of the poet. The haggis was carried in by Mrs G.Davie, Mrs R. Soutar, Mrs P.Low, Miss Doig and Miss Fotheringham and it was piped in by Mr F. Stewart. "The Address" was given by Mr D.S. MacKenzie.
An excellent programme of Burns' songs was sustained by Misses I.Smith and D. Kidd and Messrs D. Buik and F. Stewart. Mr W.S Bannerman played the accompaniments Mr R. Soutar proposed the vote of thanks.
Coal Prices Up
Dundee housewives are now paying 2d more for each "mett" of coal. The increase came into operation on Monday. A city Merchant stated that this was the usual seasonal increase. With the rise in the winter demand the colliers raise their prices and the merchants had been obliged t follow suit increasing the price by 2s per ton.
