Drivers should know that failure to stop after an accident can lead to a fine of up to £100, endorsement of the driving licence and possible disqualification. This doesn't only apply to accidents involving other persons. It includes damage to any vehicle and certain animals. Among them, horses, sheep and dogs, and any property forming part of the land in which the road is situated.
After such an accident a driver must stop, give name, address and identification marks to anyone who has reasonable grounds for requiring them. If this isn't practicable the accident must be reported to the police within 24 hours.
The Swallow Hotel, formerly the Greystane House, at Invergowrie, was officially opened by Lord Provost Harry Vaughan. Since it was taken over by Swallow Hotels, who own 35 hotels in the UK, £750,000 has been spent on it.
It's some time now since the Murraygate and Wellgate took over as the main centre of shopping in Dundee. It was feared that shops in the Overgate Centre would suffer as a result, but it now seems, in part at least, that this isn't the case. Shops at the eastern end of the Overgate have been undergoing an extensive refit. Kendals, Harry Fenton's, Salisburys and Collingwoods, all part of the Combined English Stores group, have been having their premises refitted. "C & A are also extending their premises so it doesn't look like they're suffering too badly", said Mr Gwyn Rees, Manager of Collingwoods, the jewellers. I have every confidence in the Overgate, at least in this end of the centre.
