Date and Walnut Loaf 1930

Instead of cake you might like this on the table occasionally. It is nourishing and nice. E.S. McIntyre of Edzell has found it a great favourite in her house. Take ¼ dates. Remove the stones and chop up. Then rub ¼ lb of marg into 1 lb of flour. Then mix together ¾ teacup of sugar, 2 teaspoons baking powder, ¼ lb chopped walnuts then add in ½ cup of milk and 1 egg well beaten. Turn into a greased tin and bake in a moderate oven until firm and brown.
