Swiss Milk Tablet 1935

This brown tablet is delicious and a great favourite. Take 3lb of castor sugar, 3-oz fresh butter, a small time of condensed milk, 1 cupful of fresh milk, 1 heaped tablespoonful of syrup and 1 dessertspoonful of vinegar. Put sugar, butter, syrup and fresh milk into an enamel lined pan and melt very slowly (don't allow to boil until thoroughly melted). When boiling add the condensed milk, stirring all the time, boil for 20 to 30 minutes, and then add the vinegar. Remove from the fire and beat for five minutes, before pouring into greased tins.
