Top O' The Hill Time

Bank StreetThe hands of the Hilltown clock, Dundee landmark, were restored yesterday. The works have been out of commission since the end of the year. The repair job was carried out by Mr W. Robertson Reid, caretaker of the city's clocks. The face has been repainted and the works given a major overhaul. An electric system has also been installed, so that the dial will be illuminated at night.

The clock was installed in 1900 and has undergone only two repairs since then.

Walked Out With Linoleum

Mr B (43), Craig Street, Dundee, stole a roll of lino valued at £1 12s 6d on Saturday in the public-house at 21 Hawkhill. He was fined £5 at the Sheriff Court today.

Mr Skeen, Depute Fiscal, said Mr B went in with the man who had the lino. When the man left to get another sample he left the roll in a corner. When he returned it had disappeared and so had Mr B. When charged, Mr B said "I am not denying it, I got 12 bob for it".

Mr Boath, Solicitor, said Mr B had been hawking with the other man, who refused to pay him the share of a previous deal.

Sheriff MacKinnon referred to Mr B's five previous convictions, the last in 1936.
