1,000 will make pocket TV sets at Timex

A £5 million programme to manufacture a flat screen pocket television and radio set in Dundee, eventually producing 1,000 jobs at Timex, was announced on Wednesday by Sinclair Research Ltd., which has two laboratories in Cambridgeshire.  Work is due to start next year when 250 jobs will be available.

The remaining 750 employees will be required between 1982 and 1985.  But it's believed most of the 1,000 jobs will be filled by present Timex workers.  The pocket TV, with radio, measures 6" by 4" by 1" and weighs just a few ounces.  It is expected to sell at about £50.
