A special committee of the town council considered the question of restoration and improvement of the Howff Burying Ground. Bailie Foggie presided. A report on the subject was submitted for the City Architect and the Committee agreed to recommend that 600 tombstones be repaired; that tombstones be removed from the pathways; that a basket fence be erected; and that the railings at Meadowside be repaired, the total cost being about £400. They also suggested that additional trees be planted, the grass kept in order and closer supervision of the grounds be kept.
Over thirty of the spinners in Tay Works (Messrs Gilroy, Sons & Co., Ltd.,) came out on strike yesterday morning. Their complaint was that they were being asked to do work with one piecer, where formerly they had had two piecers. It was also put forward that the yarn they are at present working is of inferior quality. The strike was but of short duration, however, all operatives returning to work at the dinner hour. It is understood that their demand for an extra operative was granted.
