Ann Adair at Toy Appeal

MurraygateThe Keillor Centre's annual toy appeal is once again underway in an effort to collect playthings for needy children at Christmas.

Ann Adair from the "Journal" will be at the Centre on Sunday 6th December to collect donations. This is the third year of the collection. In previous years the toys have been sent to various sources including the children's ward at King's Cross Hospital, the Dundee branch of the R.S.S.P.C.C, Carolina House and the Salvation Army.

Toys, games or books this year will go to the Salvation Army's Goodwill centre in Pitkerro Road and will be used to help some of the needy families in contact with the centre.

It is hoped the appeal will be as successful as last year's when the storage allocated for collection was completely filled.

Lion's Parcels

Last Saturday the City of Dundee Lions Club with the assistance of the P7 choir of Glebelands School, Dundee, collected £404 in donations from the public in the Wellgate Centre. The cash has been used to purchase food and electricity stamps. These, together with a £5 note will be made up into parcels to be distributed by members of the Lions to twenty senior citizens in Dundee before Christmas.

The supporters will hae no trouble recognising the lcoal team..they will be in dark blue jersey's, white shorts and red stockings. This outfit has been gifted by Dundee F.C. Ketchup Tip

To get the ketchup out of a new bottle, insert a drinking straw and push it to the bottom. Enough air will then be admitted to start an even flow.

Closure of the Whitehall Theatre

Lord Provost James Gowans said on Wednesday night that Dundee District Council has not taken a decsion to close the Whitehall Theatre, but would not agree that his Labour Administration was having second thoughts on closure. The Lord Provost, who was in the chair at a meeting of the Convenerless Cultural Services Committee, promised early information for amateur societies who have booked the theatre for spring performances, and now face the dilema of not knowing if their production will be staged. Facing a bombardment of questions the Lord Provost said the Labour Administration was not inflexible.

Not a Good Idea

In this week's sub zero temperatures I couldn't really applaud the commonsense of some Dundee motorists. At one suburban locaation after another I found evidence of street-side washing of cars.Water had drifted onto the roadway and frozen into trecherous icy patches. It was particularly hazardous where gradients were involved. And steep roads form a good part of the Dundee scene.
