Arrested after the shooting of his former sweetheart in a Dundee Street, James Pringle, the Perth taxi driver appeared before Sheriff Valentine at Perth on Saturday, charged with murder.The indictment bore that on 15th August 1931, in South Ward (Road) Street, Dundee, Pringle assaulted Annie McLaren Robertson, Broomfield, Birkhill, Dundee and discharged at her a loaded pistol, whereby she was so severely injured in the head that she died the same day in Dundee Royal Infirmary and he did murder her.
An agent of behalf of Pringle stated that, in view of medical reports, he was tendering a plea of insanity at the bar of trial, and that there would be special defence that at the time charged Pringle was not responsible for his actions.
Pringle was remitted at the High Court, to be held at Dundee on Tuesday at one o'clock.
A widening scheme at Tofthill, Lochee was provisionally approved by a sub-committee of Dundee Town Council on Thursday. Mr George Anton, Tofthill, has previously offered to give off ground for the purpose of widening Tofthill Road and of improving the corner of Tofthill and Bright Street.
The sub-committee agreeded to carry out the scheme provided that the ground was given free of charge. The cost of the scheme is £200.
The film "The Eaton Affair" which was made during the summer by Dundee Cine Society in conjunction with Dundee Dramatic Society was shown at a meeting of the former body onThursday night.
The film was an experiment made with a view to enabling members of the Dramatic Society to see their own acting.
There was also a short discussion on the various aspects of staging. The film "Taste of Suez" taken by Mr A. Bremner, a member was also screened
A brisk revival of trade is being experienced at Dundee Harbour at present and the wharves and docks present a busy scene.
No fewer than 93 vessels arrived during November, carrying a total net tonnage of 80,324. This is the highest figure since January of last year, when the record tonnage of 100, 006 was forwarded. When it is considered that previous to November the years highest total was 73,457 tons in February, one has an idea how much trade has improved within the past few weeks.

An interesting series of free cookery demo's arranged by Brown & Polson, Ltd., the well known makers of cornflour, "Raisley" and custard powder, will be given in the YMCA Hall, Dundee form Monday to Friday (inclusive) next week.
Mrs B.S George, first class diplomee, Glasgow will attend from 3pm - 4pm each afternoon and from 7.30pm to 8.30pm each evening to lecture and demonstrate some of the branches of cookery with which she will be using:- useful hints on baking, how to steam and boil puudings, the proper cooking of vegetables, attractive fish and vegetable sauces, simple savouries and dainty hot and cold sweets.
Recipe books and a wide range of cookery utensils will be on sale and there will also be a novel home baking competition for the best exhibit of cornflour cake. The competition is for amateurs only and presentation boxes of cookery utensils will be given as prizes. Demonstrations in the making of the article for the competition will be given on Monday afternoon and Wednesday evening. The prizes will be presented at the Friday evening demonstration.
Jim Fenton, the Dundee boxer was beaten by Fred Smith, Glasgow at Gourock on Saturday. Fenton put up a stout stand but the fight was stopped in the 9th round when Smith had his plucky opponent down for a count of six.

The annual show of Dundee, Angus and District Fur and Feather Club in the Drill Hall, Bell Street today is expected to be the largest of its kind held in Scotland for many years. There will probably be about 1500 exhibits. Some of the world's finest specimens of cats, rabbits, mice, pigeons and poultry from all parts of the country will be on view.
The Earl of Airlie is to open the show at noon and in the course of the afternoon Miss Florence Horsburgh, M.P, will present the principle prizes.
