For several days the Albert Institute is to take a back seat. There is a real live Zoo down on the Esplanade, and there is a collection of specimens of far higher interest than those in the glass cases. It is every citizen's duty to take his lads and lassies to Messrs Bostock & Wombwell's Show. Of course, the grown ups want to go themselves, but the taking of the children is generally the very good excuse.
The National Zoo, for which we pay out of the National Exchequer, is kept in London, and only those people who can go to London can get to see the wild animals in captivity there. This is a downright shame, but so far there has been no passive resistance to the paying for London's privilege. It is just here where Messrs Bostock & Wombwell's Show is a national benefaction. But for it there are hundreds and thousands of people of this island who would never have the educational advantage of seeing a live and roaring lion, not to speak of jaguars, elephants, camels, monkeys, hyenas, pelicans, bears and birds of every hue. The show on the Esplanade is much improved since it was last here, and besides the exhibition there are some thrilling performances in the dens by clever trainers. No one should miss seeing the team of six horses, Olympia prize-winners.
Next Week's Practice Games.
Dundee F.C. are now setting their house in order for the coming season. The players have all arrived, and preparations are being made for the two preliminary games that are to take place next week. The first team forward will play in front of the A team defence, while the A team forwards will have the first eleven defence in their rear. The matches are likely to be played next Tuesday and Thursday, but the dates have not yet been definitely settled. Every player will be turned out, the Elgin men being brought south specially for the occasions.
Frank Lindley the recruit from Sheffield, and Arthur Ayles were among the first to put in an appearance at Dens Park. They are likely looking lads and the Directors have great hopes for their success. Lindley and Wyles are on a month's trial, but if appearances go for anything they will be at Dens Park much longer then that.

To Remove Tartar from Teeth
Tartar, one of the greatest enemies of the teeth, may be kept away by the daily brushing of the teeth and the use of a few drops of myrrh in a half-glass of water. Use a moderately stiff toothbrush. The teeth should be brushed after every meal but where this is not convenient brushed thoroughly every morning.
Steep a tablespoon of garden sage in a cupful of boiling water, when cold strain. Wet the head at night all over with mixture, and let it dry before braiding. Where the hair is streaked with grey, sage tea is the best thing to use; it helps to darken all over, and keeps the hair in good condition. Use it freely, it keeps the hair glossy, clean and soft.
"Auld Howff" - The Dundee Works Committee yesterday inspected the grounds of the "Auld Howff" and agreed that the Assistant Superintendent of the Parks should arrange for them to be put in order, the City Engineer and his men to do the necessary work, including an additional fate at the north-west corner.
