Passion for Trams

In the early 1950s I lived in Lochee with my mother, my passion as a little boy of 5 years old was the trams. So much so that I would walk down to the tram stop and get on the first tram. Inevitably I would change trams several times and end up at a terminus or in a tram shed and would eventually be taken home in a police car, sometimes they would let me ring the bell!!

This happened so often that mother was on first name terms with some of the police officers whose job it was to return me home. My favourite "end of line" was the Strathmartine Road as an aunt and uncle of mine used to own the Strathmartine Castle farm but the walk from the tram terminus to the farm proved too much for a 5 year old.
