My Mother

My father died in 1959 and with him, my mother voted conservative and supported Dundee. She remarried, and with Jim she voted labour and supported Dundee United.

In 1994 shortly before she died she was in Ninewells. At 4.45pm I went to the patients sitting room to see how United were doing in the cup final. Imagine my delight to be told in the closing minutes they were winning. The atmosphere on the bus going home was unforgettable, as it was in the city the next day.
