Villa Watch With Bill Brown

Wellgate StepsAston Villa have joined Charlton in the quest for Bill Brown, Dundee's goalkeeper. They moved quietly, their representative arrived in Dundee last Saturday morning. He paid for admission to the stand and kept out of sight. At the finish he made straight for the south train. But before he left I learned that he was greatly impressed with the goal-keeper and would report accordingly to the Villa directors. It appears certain that they will make an official call at Dens Park.

Kirkton Gardening Trophy

"I am hoping I can recommend a tour of Kirkton housing scheme to our American visitor as one of the most beautiful parts of Dundee". This was said in Dundee City Council Chambers on Thursday by Dundee-born Mrs Jemima Spilch now of New York. She was presenting the Splich Trophy for gardening to Mr John Wilson, 68 Beauly Avenue, Kirkton, who was accompanied by his wife. The ceremony was presided by Lord Provost William Hughes, who said Mrs Spolich left Dundee 32 years ago. On a visit home in 1950 she got her idea to increase Kirkton resident's interest in gardening. The result was the Splich Trophy.

Cheese & Ham Loaf

This is a delicious filling for sandwiches.
You require 4oz of grated cheese, 1 egg, 6oz breadcrumbs, 6oz lean boiled ham, 1 dessertspoonful of tomato sauce, salt and pepper, a little milk and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Chop the ham finely and mix with all the dry ingredients. Stir in the tomato sauce and mix to a fine dough with the egg and milk. Turn into a greased baking tray, press and dot with butter pieces. Bake for half an hour in a moderate oven. Cook and slice thinly to use in sandwiches.
