A Dundee Landmark

Dundee from the LawSo many readers have questioned us of late concerning the old thatched dwelling in the Blackscroft district of the city. The "biggin" is situated midway between Foundry Lane and Blackscroft. From the former thoroughfare it is easily seen, but it can only be reached from Blackscroft by means of a stair. The dwelling is one of the oldest of its kind in Dundee in use and very likely the first inhabitant of it jumped out of bed and into the Tay for their morning's wash as the river then would almost reach the row of thatched cottages.

Bramble Wine

Measure your berries and bruise them. To every gallon add one quart of boiling water. Let the mixture stand for 24 hours, stirring occasionally during that time. Strain off the liquor into a cask and to every gallon add 2lbs of loaf sugar. Cork or bung tightly and let it stand until the following October, when it will be ready for use without any further attention.
