Dundee Volunteers Group March

WeighhouseThe 1st (City of Dundee) Volunteer Batallion of the Black Watch held a route march through the city on Saturday. The members assembled under the command of Colonel Howard Hill in Parker Square. There was a fairly large attendance fully 300 being on parade.

School Holidays in Dundee

At a meeting of Dundee School Committee on Monday it was decided to close all the schools including the Harris and the Morgan Academies for the Spring holidays from Friday April 7th to Monday April 17th.

A Suspicious Case

Two Hilltown men, John Shirkey and David Ross underwent trial before Sherrif Campbell Smith at Dundee yesterday, on a charge of having stolen a quantity of lead piping and solder from an unoccupied house in the Hilltown . Numerous witnesses were examined but His Lordship said there was no evidence to show that the men were guilty. It was a suspicious case and the accused had better take care of themselves in the future. He found the charge not proven.

A Kindly Custom

It is now not quite so fashionable to send out brides cake as formerly, still it is a kindly custom and most people are pleased to be remembered this way. The cake is generally sent out immediately after the wedding by the bridesmaids or the members of the brides family, and failing, the possibility of the bride herself on the conclusion of her honeymoon within a week or two of the eventful day.

Newsagents, Booksellers and Stationers

The Annual General Meeting of the Dundee and District of the Newsagents, Booksellers and Stationers national union was held in Lamb's Hotel on Wednesday night. The union had had a most successful year. The membership had more than doubled and now stood at 53 as against 24 last year. Financially there was a credit balance of £3 13s 11d. The reports were unanimously adopted and office bearers were elected. A committee of three ladies and three gentlemen was also appointed.

A Concert by Dundee School Children

In the Kinnaird Hall on Saturday a very successful concert was given, the programme being chiefly provided by a choir of 250 school children conducted by Alexander Adamson. Scotch songs, duets and solos were given and the performance was highly satisfactory.
