Band Concert at Downfield

The first band concert in Downfield, now part of Dundee provided by the town council, was given in the public park on Monday by Dundee Trades Band under Mr A.J. Patterson. In the course of the programme ex-Bailie Martin in the absence of the Lord Provost, said those around him were now citizens of no mean city. The desire of the people nowadays was to have gardens and open spaces around their dwellings and Downfield was very favourably situated in this respect and would be a welcome addition to the City Of Dundee. A congratulatory telegram was read from Lord Provost Longair. There was a large attendance and the concert was thoroughly enjoyed.

The Baxter Park is to be visited tomorrow afternoon by a Salvation Army band. Several folks have asked me why the Silver Band has never put in an appearance in the east end. I have enquired and learned  that according to Army regulations, the Baxter Park is outwith the region in which the Silver Band is deputed to work.
