I lived at the Byron Street end and it was Law View Place. The Hill Street end before houses were built was a Darbie Manor. So we always referred to Derby sounding the E which in English is pronounced Darby. The whole street was eventually renamed Derby Street. But I would like it to be spelt correctly in Scots Darbie Street once the multis are gone.<span class="read-more"><a href="/reminiscences/derby-street"><strong>&nbsp;Read more......</strong></a></span></p> Byron Street Derby Street Law Crescent Childhood Games Anonymous Hilltown Wed, 02 Mar 2011 15:22:14 +0000 lynne.davidson 573 at http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk The Last Tram http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/reminiscences/last-tram-1 <p><span class='wysiwyg_imageupload image imgupl_floating_right imgupl_styles_spacing_20_black_border\n\rBlack Border'><a href="http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/sites/default/files/imagecache/wysiwyg_imageupload_lightbox_preset/wysiwyg_imageupload/9/lasttram.png" rel="lightbox[wysiwyg_imageupload_inline]" title=""><img src="http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/sites/default/files/imagecache/medium/wysiwyg_imageupload/9/lasttram.png" alt="" title="" class="imagecache wysiwyg_imageupload imgupl_styles_spacing_20_black_border\n\rBlack Border imagecache imagecache-medium" style="" width="230" height="165" /></a> <span class='image_meta'></span></span>I was on the last tram (I was 11). It had a chain with a bell shaped cup on the end. My mother used to get the coach built pram on one end of the tram and the driver used to fix it on. I remember when as a young boy going through the Law Tunnel. There was always stories going around about people that had gone into the tunnel and never came out, so it was a brave kid that would dare to go from, one end to the other. It started at the tennis court in Upper Constitution Street and came out at the Law Crescent gardens at Byron Street.</p> Byron Street Law Crescent Upper Constitution Street 1930's Childhood Anonymous Brantwood/The Glens Law Hill Wed, 02 Mar 2011 15:05:56 +0000 lynne.davidson 569 at http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk Downfield Tram http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/reminiscences/downfield-tram <p><span class='wysiwyg_imageupload image imgupl_floating_right imgupl_styles_spacing_20_black_border\n\rBlack Border'><a href="http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/sites/default/files/imagecache/wysiwyg_imageupload_lightbox_preset/wysiwyg_imageupload/9/densrd.png" rel="lightbox[wysiwyg_imageupload_inline]" title=""><img src="http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/sites/default/files/imagecache/medium/wysiwyg_imageupload/9/densrd.png" alt="" title="" class="imagecache wysiwyg_imageupload imgupl_styles_spacing_20_black_border\n\rBlack Border imagecache imagecache-medium" style="" width="230" height="165" /></a> <span class='image_meta'></span></span>My mother, brothers and I used to get Downfield tram which stopped outside our closie in Dens Road to go to the berries at Downfield or go to the Sidlaws on a Sunday for a picnic.
