I especially&nbsp;remember the visits to the grannies house above the Windsor Bar for Sunday&nbsp;dinner. After dinner the adults listened to Stranger on the Shore and me and&nbsp;my wee sister watched the people and traffic on Princess Street from the&nbsp;sitting room window.</p> Princes Street Childhood Jimmy Stobswell Fri, 22 May 2015 08:21:51 +0000 lynne.davidson 1316 at http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk Another Runaway Tram http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/reminiscences/another-runaway-tram <p><span class='wysiwyg_imageupload image imgupl_floating_right imgupl_styles_spacing_20_black_border\n\rBlack Border'><a href="http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/sites/default/files/imagecache/wysiwyg_imageupload_lightbox_preset/wysiwyg_imageupload/9/maryfiedtramdepot.png" rel="lightbox[wysiwyg_imageupload_inline]" title=""><img src="http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/sites/default/files/imagecache/medium/wysiwyg_imageupload/9/maryfiedtramdepot.png" alt="" title="" class="imagecache wysiwyg_imageupload imgupl_styles_spacing_20_black_border\n\rBlack Border imagecache imagecache-medium" style="" width="230" height="165" /></a> <span class='image_meta'></span></span>On the Maryfield line, just before the Arbroath Road on Albert Street a fellow had parked his horse and cart. The tram driver decided that there was not enough room to pass, he decided to go into nearby shops to look for the carter but the tram's air brake leaked and the tram, full of passengers ran right down Princes Street and King Street to the Gaumont Cinema. Mr Charles Broadley, Superintendent, took charge of the situation, fortunately no one was hurt.</p> Albert Street Arbroath Road King Street Princes Street 1950's Cinema / Theatre Trams Work / Working Life James Valentine Maryfield Tue, 15 Mar 2011 14:39:10 +0000 lynne.davidson 683 at http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk Favourite Tram Ride http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/reminiscences/favourite-tram-ride <p><span class='wysiwyg_imageupload image imgupl_floating_right imgupl_styles_spacing_20_black_border\n\rBlack Border'><a href="http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/sites/default/files/imagecache/wysiwyg_imageupload_lightbox_preset/wysiwyg_imageupload/9/highst3.png" rel="lightbox[wysiwyg_imageupload_inline]" title=""><img src="http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk/sites/default/files/imagecache/medium/wysiwyg_imageupload/9/highst3.png" alt="" title="" class="imagecache wysiwyg_imageupload imgupl_styles_spacing_20_black_border\n\rBlack Border imagecache imagecache-medium" style="" width="230" height="165" /></a> <span class='image_meta'></span></span>I lived at 18, Victoria Street until September 1947. Trams ran up and down Princes Street to the City Square. I did miss that special ride when we moved to South Australia.</p> City Square Princes Street 1940's Trams David Boath City Centre Thu, 03 Mar 2011 14:35:40 +0000 lynne.davidson 599 at http://bygone.dundeecity.gov.uk
