Economy In Tea

Do you find your tea allowance too small? Read what Mrs Hill, Thornliebank says, and learn how to make more of it: - Instead of putting two or three spoonfuls of tea into the pot, fill a saucepan with water and let it boil, then put in one spoonful of tea and let it boil for one minute, not longer. Stain into a pot leaving the leaves in the saucepan. Fill up with cold water, and bring to the boil again, when you will have a second infusion ready for the teapot. To Keep Parsley Fresh

Mrs Mc., Aberdeen - Instead of keeping parsley in water, which makes it turn yellow, put it in an air-tight jar in a cool place. This will keep it fresh for some time. To restore the colour to parsley that has dropped, place it in a basin with a small piece of cooking soda pour boiling water over it, and instantly the parsley will look as though just picked.

When frying bacon for breakfast fry one side, then turn and put thin sliced of cheese on top. By the time the other side of the bacon is cooked the cheese has melted. Read more......

Top Ten Barbecue Tips

  • To avoid food sticking to the grill, rub a little fat or oil on the bars before cooking.
  • To avoid fat dripping on to the charcoal and causing the fire to flare, cut off excess fat from steaks and use low fat sausages and burgers.
  • When cooking kebabs, thread cubes of meat loosely on skewer for well done results, or push closer together for under-done kebabs.

Easy Cleaned Pot
