Downfield Days

I read George MacDonald's story about his dad being a manager at Bonar Long. I worked in the office at Bonar Long and was office girl and then secretary for about 3 years to the works manager whose name was Roy MaCdonald, so I think it may have been his dad. I left in 1960 to go to another job but still have fond memories of my days at Bonar Long. As a teenager I remember going to Kidds dancing and to the Chalet at Broughty Ferry. I now live in rural Manitoba, Canada. I am 67 years old now but still have many happy memories of my time growing up in Dundee.

My name is Linda Myles I lived at 18 Bank Avenue, Downfield from 1943 to 1953. I went to Downfield School from 1947 to 1953. I remember Duffus who had a garage at the bottom of our road on the Kingsway. I remember going to the Ice Rink there as well and the tram cars. I also remember going to a store on Strathmartine Road called Frombolds for sweeties and Rossis fish and chip shop. I later moved to Broughty Ferry and went to the Eastern School and Grove Academy. Later I remember going to Kidd's dancing, JM Ballroom and the Chalet and meeting my Saturday night date at Samuel's clock in the High Street. I now live in Canada but was back in 2006 and went to all the places of my childhood and found that nothing had changed much.
