"We Want Shops" say Fintry Housewives

City CentreEight housewives marched into the Council Chambers at Thursday night's meeting of Dundee Corporation to demand immediate action to provide shops at Mains of Fintry Housing Scheme. About 30 more, for whom there was no room, waited impatiently in an adjoining committee room.

The deputation refused to be placated by assurances from Lord Provost Black that action was being taken. They continued to hurl angry comments after the Lord Provost had terminated the interview, and were still talking excitedly when ushered from the Chamber.

Main spokeswoman was Mrs E. Williamson, Findhorn Street, "we want to know when we can have shops in Fintry - we want a starting date and a finishing date" she demanded. "We have been put off far too long, both about shops and a school".

"We are entitled to shops. We are paying big rents - far too big. I would say - but we are prepared to pay them if we get the necessary backing of the Town Council".
