The New "Fifie"

The Newport, for the appearance of which the public looked so long, is now ready to undertake the passage, and if all goes well Dundonians and suburbanites will be able to cross the ferry in the new steamer today. The new "Fifie" will run in conjunction with the Fifeshire during the afternoon, but it is not intended that she will work the passage regularly just yet. The intention is to break the Newport into the work by degrees, and throughout next week the old and familiar Fifeshire will continue to ferry passengers across the river.

The crew are getting into the way of the new craft, which differs in several respects from the old boats and today another trial trip will run with the object of seeing that everything is in order for the Saturday afternoon's work.

Artistic Treat for Dundee

Arrangements are at present being made for an important exhibition of pictures, which is to be held in the Dundee Art Galleries next month. The display will be the best that has been seen in the city for many years, and is evoking considerable interest in art circles, not only in England and Scotland, but also on the Continent, which is to be well represented.

It is expected that there will be at least 300 pictures on view, including specimens of the best work of Scottish, English and Belgian artists. It is to be and international exhibitions in every sense, and artists and owners of pictures have readily acceded to the request of the Committee for loans, and the success of the display is already assured. Altogether the exhibition promises to be one of great merit, and the efforts of Dr Millar and the Committee in organising it will no doubt be highly appreciated by art-lovers all over the country.

Weekly Tips

Hemming Linen - When turning a hem on linen keep a glass of warm water at hand and dip the fingers into it frequently. The stiffness of the heavy linen will yield and the work may be accomplished much more quickly and accurately.

Another Capture by Dundee Hibs

The announcement that W.Monteith, of Kilmarnock, Beith and Airdrie, has signed for Dundee Hibs will have a peculiar interest to local football followers, who have not forgotten how near Beith came to beating the Dundee team at Dens Park last season, nor the part played by Monteith's goalkeeping in the two games.

At the end of last season Monteith kept goal for Airdrieonians when Duncan was transferred to Celtic. Monteith, who is a very cleaver custodian, is fully six feet in height.

The King's Theatre

We have pleasant recollections of H.O. Wills, the "water rat" who is one of the "stars" at the Kings Theatre next week. A funny man with a funny voice, his is one of those droll comedians whose every antic induces a hearty laugh. During the coming week he will doubtless but add to his laurels.

Lamberti, another "star" has achieved considerable success as an impersonator of famous musicians. His turn is reputed to be a thoroughly enjoyable one. Sisters Du Cane are to present a vocal scena, and Captain Kettle, the "wizard of the Atlantic" will contribute a mystifying variety show. "Roots, Rash Chemist", a sketch dubbed "the limit of farcical extravaganza," should, if its reputation is true, be well worth hearing. The eight College girls in a vocal and dancing scene, "School Girls at Play" should also prove pleasant and enjoyable, while brothers O'Brien's gymnastic turn is guaranteed to give us a sufficiency of thrills for one night.

New Centre Forward for Dundee

The Dundee F.C. have secured the services of J.C.Bain, who for part of last season played as an amateur for Raith Rovers. The Dens Park management have been on the look-out for a reserve centre forward, and Bains abilities were brought under the notice of officials.

Bain, previous to joining Raith Rovers, was connected with Kirkcaldy Albion. It was at outside right that he shone at the Lang Toon, being the Rovers' best goal-getter.
