Stolen - One Hour

It's now officially winter.
At the week-end we put the clocks back one hour because Summer Time had ended.
So now, for most of us, an hour of perfectly good daylight goes to waste in the morning and we'll be struggling home in the darkness.
Daft isn't it?
Why shouldn't Summer Time go on all year round?
Many people advocate it. It would save fuel and give us a brighter winter.
What do you think?
Reader's views, for or against, will be welcome. All letters used will be paid for.
Address - Summer Time, "People's Journal", 7 Bank Street, Dundee

Make Use Of A Kettle

When you poach an egg, do not light an extra gas jet. Instead get a cup or small bowl which will fit into the kettle hole when the lid is removed.
Grease the cup, break the egg into it, season and place over the kettle. The steam from the boiling water cooks the egg nicely so saving fuel.

A Young Reader In Trouble

A teacher was giving a class of children at Dundee's Liff Road School a grammar lesson. After chalking a sentence on the blackboard she found one young lad engrossed in something under his desk.
"Bring that our here" said the teacher.
The little lad marched out with a copy of the "People's Journal"!
"You seem to be more advanced than the rest of the class" said the teacher curbing a smile
"I think we'll have an extra lesson using a sentence from your newspaper"
Our young reader didn't get the strap, but he's mightly unpopular with his classmates!!

For Jumper Elbows

From the tops and good parts of stockings, cut small squares and sew into all the elbows of all cardigans and jumpers. It is a good idea for children's school jumpers.
