Fluffy Scones

These are delightful and especially so if spread with honey. Take ½lb  flour, 1½ teaspoons sugar, 1oz margaine, 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar, ½ teaspoon baking soda, pinch of salt and a little sour buttercream. Mis together all the dry ingredients, rub in the margarine and add the milk to make a medium dough. Roll out on a floured board and cut into shape. Bake on a hot girdle.

Tree Fall Across Road

An ash tree, 30 feet high was blown down in Strathearn Road, Dundee about 9 o'clock on Monday morning. The scene of the accident was between Dunella Road and  Fairfield Road. The tree was one of a group which skirts the north side of the road and as it was badly decayed at the roots, it was easy prey to a strong wind.

All bus traffic at the moment traverses Strathearn Road but fortunately not a single vehicle or passer-by was passing at the time. The tree did not completely block the road and there was a narrow track left for motorists. The tramway department wagon dragged the trunk into Dunella Road and three employees of the works department proceeded to saw it up.

Support of Public Requested

Dundee Samaritan Society is never done working to help those not to happily situated. Its committee of ladies doe its work well and thoroughly, though quietly. Attached to Dundee Royal Infirmary the society's chief concern is the aftercare of patients who have been inmates of the institution. Over and over again it has been found that without attention, clothes and general neccessities the good which treatment in the Infirmary has done has been entirely annulled. It is the aim of the society to help those patients as far as possible to benefit by their stay in the Infirmary. Like most societies of its kind, the Samaritan Society must have the support of the public before it can carry on sufficiently. Just now it is making an appeal for gifts of clothing of all descriptions; boots and shoes etc., old and new. No matter how small the gift it will be welcomed by the Hon. Secretaries, Samaritan Room, Dundee Royal Infirmary.
