White Blackbird Shot

Courier BuildingLiff's white blackbird is dead - ruthlessly shot.  The bird, a perfect albino, was first observed in the district about two years ago, and since then it had haunted the village and the woods of Gray to the delight of the residents, old and young, who were proud to point it out to visitors when it hopped into view from the leafy glades.  A few days ago it disappeared, and it has been conclusively established that it was deliberately shot.  There is mourning in the village, but even more intense than the sorrow is the indignation felt at the vandal act by which the feathered pet was removed.

Music Success

Mrs Caution, 18 Forebank Road, Dundee, has been awarded a diploma for efficiency in organ playing, harmony, transposition and composition of sacred music and choir training.  The examination was set after a course of lectures given in Dundee last winter by Mr Herbert Wiseman.  Mrs Caution is organist in Forgan Parish Church.

A Parting Gift

An interesting ceremony took place in the hall of the new Harris Academy, Dundee, last night, when Mr Stewart A. Robertson, who has just retired from the position of Director of Education, received a parting gift from the teachers and educational staffs of the city.  The gift took the form of a combined electric gramophone and radio set.

Unemployed List

There has been a decrease of about 2,000 in the list of Dundee's unemployed.  Unfortunately the list continues to be far too big with little prospect of early reduction.  A census of Dundee unemployed men who are hiking about the country in search of work would surprise the majority of comfortable citizens.

Knocked Down

Charles Pyott (5), 18 Malcolm Street, was knocked down in Princes Street on Thursday by a push cycle ridden by James Robertson (26), 5 Balmore Street.  Robertson was thrown from his machine.  Both were conveyed to the Royal Infirmary where Pyott was detained for treatment for an eye injury.  Robertson was allowed home after hs head injuries had been tended to.

Sweepings Ignited

The fire brigade was called out to an outbreak early on Tuesday morning in the ladies' hairdressing salon at 286 Hilltown occupied by Sine and Mason.  The occupants above the shop were awakened by the smell of burning, and notified the police.  The firemen, under Captain Weir, found that a quantity of shop sweepings and shavings had become ignited, some of the wood work being burned.  The damage was slight.
