Clever Display

Eastern CemeteryThere is no limit to ingenuity in advertising these days. By way of attracting attention to one of the latest popular melodies, a Dundee dealer has arranged a clever display in his shop window. An amiable old lady is depicted slumbering beside her fireside and every inch has been used to supply "atmosphere". She has an old fashioned gramophone and big tea caddies, while a brass clock hangs on the wall. As a final touch a copy of the "People's Journal" rests up on her lap.

Dearer Bread in Dundee

Dundee housewives had to pay more for their bread, but less for their coal on Monday. Coal is down by 25 per ton and 2d per mett (168lb), while the price of bread has increased by ½d on the quartern loaf. It is hardly a case of what one loses on the roundabouts being made up on the swings for while consumption of coal is much lessened this summer, the consumption of bread says the same.

A Good Omen

What is it that attracts black cats round St. Andrews Church, Dundee? Is it to bring prospective brides good luck? Last year during a wedding there, two black cats come out and sat right in the path of the bride. This year on 1st June, four black cats appeared almost at the same spot. All those who are superstitious would be will to try to get their wedding fixed for St. Andrew's Church.

To Contest Both Dundee Seats

For the first time in Dundee's political history Socialist party candidates are to contest both seats at the next General Election.

Despite the sweeping defeat they sustained at the polls in October, the executive committee of the Dundee Trades and Labour Council have decided to put forward two candidates at the next election and have instructed all affiliated bodies to submit prospective nominations. The committee recommended that one of the two candidates nominated should be Mr Michael Marcus, a former Socialist MP for the division, who lost his seat in October.
