Work for Dundee Men and Women

Valuable work has been done by Dundee Employment Exchange in finding work for men and women on their register. For the year ending in June the placings were 11,033 as compared with 7353 the previous year. A feature of recent placings is the number of women sent to holiday resorts for the summer season. Local girls have been sent to St Andrews, Oban and Callander. In the domestic services line there has been a big drain of the exchange register.

Cheaper Bread in Dundee

It was announced that the price of bread in Dundee is reduced by ½d per 4lb loaf as from today. This brings the price back to its previous level, the increase of ½d having been in force for less than a fortnight. The reduction is due to the local bakers' failure to reach an agreement with those responsible for intensive competition from Glasgow and also to the prospect of cheaper flour being available consequent upon the extraordinary situation in the Chicago wheat pit.

Riverside Drive

The Esplanade from Tay Ferries to Ninewells is to be known in the future as Riverside Drive and Station Park as Riverside Park. The new names were first forwarded by the "Courier and Advertiser" and the Works Committee of the Town Council yesterday adopted the suggestions.

The Convener Mr John Phin said many references had been made with a view to renaming the Esplanade  or Station Park as it was generally called. These names are not worthy of the fine stretch of ground which the city possessed there. The best names had been those which had appeared in the "Courier and Advertiser" - that the Esplanade should be known as Riverside Drive and Station Park as Riverside Park. These are beautiful names and appropriate to the surroundings. The Convener pointed out that Riverside Drive would be applied to the Esplanade from the Tay Ferries to Ninewells.
