Ruling for Taxi Drivers
Dundee taxi drivers were refused permission by Tayside Regional Council to use the buses-only lane down Victoria Road to pick up fares and thus reduce their petrol consumption.
Joining the Armed Forces
In the first nine months of this year 709 Dundee youngsters joined the armed forces - 510 the army, 128 the RAF and 71 the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
100th Birthday
Former Dundee woman Mrs Mary Keddie celebrated her 100th birthday with her son and his family in Hamilton. She worked as a weaver in Dundee. Mrs Keddie and her late husband James moved to Edinburgh in the 1930s.

Tennis Trial
The temperature was near zero, the wind was howling in from the west, the light was almost gone. But that didn't prevent two youths having a game of tennis on the all-weather courts in the new South Road park, between Charleston and Menzieshill, at the weekend.

Jute Works to Close
Sidlaw Industries Ltd. announced yesterday (Thursday) that Camperdown Works, Lochee, is closing with the loss of 340 jute jobs. Heavy losses in the textiles division are blamed for the move. Sidlaw Industries will vacate the 23-acre complex as soon as practicable after April 10th.
Bachelor Girl Marmalade
This does not take much time and you don't need a jelly pan.
Take one large orange, one lemon and half a grapefruit. Grate skins, pulp, pips and put all into a baking bowl. Add one pint of water and allow to stand for 24 hours.
Next day, boil with 2 lbs sugar until the marmalade sets, about 15 minutes usually, stirring all the time. Pour into small jars suitable for the table.
