Bosses' Wives Have The Final Say

Angus HotelCup final fever has hit Dundee with our two senior soccer club teams meeting tomorrow (Saturday) at Dens Park to decide this season's winners of the league.Arrangements for the game have been discussed by almost everyone in Dundee - concerning everything from the weather prospects to who'll be in the teams and, of course, who has tickets!

One unusual meeting took place this week, however when Dundee manager Donald MacKay's wife Pat paid a visit to Mrs Doris McLean, wife of United manager Jim.

Pat and Doris got together to discuss their tactics for Saturday afternoon, nothing quite so technical as their husbands team strategy, but more along the lines of their own plans. Doris is adamant that she'll be at the match to cheer United on - although she'll still be carrying out her usual home game duties. "I always go along, but like to keep in the background and help out the other women by making tea and seeing to programmes." she said. "This Saturday won't be any different although obviously I'll be a little nervous during the game and extremely delighted if United win."

Pat MacKay, on the other hand, won't even be at the game. "As many people know, I feel a bit of a jinx as far as the team's concerned" explained Pat " a couple of months ago, when Dundee were going through their bad spell, I missed part of a game and during the time I was away they fought back from 2-0 to draw 2-2.
Since them, I've stayed away from the matches and they've never lost a game. "I don't know for sure what I'll be doing on Saturday afternoon, I'll probably rely on a radio broadcast to keep me up to date, wherever I am, I'll certainly be at Dens to join in the celebrations if Dundee win!!"

When members of Kirkton Community Centre were thinking of ways to raise money for a centre minibus, the youth club came up with an idea, " Why not get a couple of footballs autographed by Dundee and Dundee United, and raffle them?" was the suggestion. So that is what they did and the raffle will be drawn tomorrow (Saturday) at the Centre's Christmas Fair which opens at 10am.
