Cars to Downfield Next Week

Steeple 1907So rapid has been the progress in the construction of the new tramway line from Fairmuir to Downfield that it is expected early next week cars will be able to run out of the terminus at Baldovan Road. Work began on 5th September and when it is considered that there has been a good deal of broken time, and that the workmen had to be employed paring the roadway from side to side, it will be conceded that the work has been pushed through with expedition.

Warning to Shopkeepers

Shopkeepers have been warned by the Dundee Police to be on their guard against a man who is ringing the changes in the city.

The individual, who is well dressed, appears in the premises of his victim with bear head, wearing a white apron and in shirt sleeves, looking for all the world a typical Grocers Assistant. He asks for change for half a sovereign duly handing over the coin, which is perfectly genuine. Some time later he reappears with a similar request which is usually granted. A third time he returns, and on this occasion he explains that it would be a great obligation if he could have the fold returned for £1 note. In several instances the two half-sovereigns where handed back and the shopkeepers, thinking the man came form a neighbouring store, were in no wise perturbed when he hurriedly left with the promise that he would return with the note in a moment. Neither the man nor the not however appeared and the police are extremely anxious to make the acquaintance of the former.
