Fire in Photographic Works

CowgateOn starting work about eight yesterday morning the employees in the hand-painting department of Messrs Valentine and Sons Ltd., photographic works in the Perth Road discovered that fire had broken out. The fire brigade station was at once communicated with but before the firemen arrived the flames were practically extinguished. The damage was not serious, a quantity of printed card and casing was destroyed.

Salvation Army Campaign

By the kindness of Mr R.A.P. Williams, Manager of the Gaiety Theatre, the Salvation Army have obtained the use of that place of entertainment for every Sunday for three months practically rent free. To open this campaign, Commissioner Nicol will speak on Sunday first at 11am, 3pm and 6.45pm. The second service is one that should appeal to the whole working classes, as during it the Commissioner will speak on General Booth's Emigration Scheme.

Hints to Amateur Gardeners

As amateurs, the members of Clepington Working Men's Gardens Association have always displayed the greatest enthusiasm for the advancement of their craft and with this in view, a series of lectures upon gardening topics has been arranged for winter. The first of these was delivered on Monday in Clepington U.F Church Hall by Mr J.A. Sturrock.
