New School Proposals

Bell StreetAt the Education Committee this week a step was taken towards the replacement of the present St. John's Junior Secondary School by a new building. The proposed site is a Balfield. It was agreed that the Director of Education should submit his proposals for the new school to the Scottish Education Department.

The proposals include 17 classrooms, 7 laboratories, 5 workshops, 2 gymnasiums, 3 art rooms, 3 kitchen laundries and a hall.

A Night Out for All the 21's

Get Rid of the Dandelions

For clearing the lawns of dandelions plantains and other weeds use a potato peeler, the apple corer type. One scoop and they come out root and all.

Raiders Ruin Tattie Crop

The fields at Gotterstone Farm, Arbroath Road, Dundee have again been ravages by tattie thieves. Hordes of men, women and children attacked one field where early potatoes were lifted. They filled message sacks and boxes. During the dinner break at harvesting time there was a continious procession of people between the fields and the Douglas and Angus housing scheme.

"Every time we left the field folk from the housing scheme swooped like vultures" said Mrs Leslie, Storeman with growers Neil Ogilvie Ltd.

Next for the One-way Signposts

The next stretch of Dundee tram track to "get the hammer" will be in Strathmartine Road. When work starts about the end of the month only north-bound traffic will be allowed between the top of the Hilltown and Coldside.  The second section between Coldside and Clepington Road will be tackled later.

Palace

Church May Close...

Princes Street Congregational Church will probably close at the end of the year. The decision taken at a meeting of the congregation and has been communicated to the church central committee in Glasgow.

With the closing of Princes Street Church there will be five Congregational churches left in Dundee and Broughty Ferry.
